Sense and Sustainability: Digital Access at the Detroit Institute of Arts

co-presenter, Museum Computer Network (MCN) Conference, Denver, Colorado, November 16th, 2018

What does it take to provide the widest possible access to digital collections? As we are all aware, museums need to publish and share their data sets and images widely to remain relevant in today's digital age. This case study will reveal insight into conceiving, executing and scaling an institution wide collections access project. Jessica and Christina will share how the Detroit Institute of Arts embarked on a five-year project, from conception, to addressing challenges, risk analysis and outcomes. They will speak candidly about their efforts to initiate culture change, keep stakeholders engaged and willing to support resources. It is critical to transform pilot projects of digitization and access into initiatives of permanence, sustainability and long-term growth.
